Our Work
By combining a political platform with practical support, BOGA is built to support ambition and action. The Alliance elevates the issue of a managed phase out of oil and gas in international dialogues and policy processes, while working to establish the enabling conditions for a just, orderly and equitable transition, in three strategic areas.
Diplomatic leadership
Building momentum and political leadership on the phase-out of oil and gas production within international climate, energy and economic policy processes.
- Supporting BOGA’s network of members, friends and partners
- Hosting high-level climate, energy and economic dialogues
- Convening Heads of Delegation (HODs) alongside UNFCCC and other processes
Transition pathways
Developing credible, country-led transition pathways for oil and gas production in line with the 1.5°C limit.
- Developing Paris-aligned transition pathways and approaches with the Major Producers Dialogue
- Supporting country-level implementation through technical working groups and the BOGA Fund
- Reflecting oil and gas transitions in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
Support for just transitions
Mobilising finance and support for oil and gas dependent economies that are planning for transition.
- Supporting country-level work through the BOGA Fund
- Developing international partnerships for just transitions
- Addressing structural, economic barriers to the transition
Acting on the facts
Recent reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the International Energy Agency, and the UN Environment Programme have made it clear that significant reductions in coal, oil and natural (fossil) gas will be required to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement.
