BOGA and European Commission co-host Ministerial Dialogue alongside the 80th UN General Assembly
In a High-Level Dialogue co-hosted by Beyond Oil & Gas Alliance and the European Commission this week alongside UNGA, speakers stressed the need to accelerate the transition away from oil and gas for climate, energy and economic security.
With a keynote from the EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, and with remarks from the COP30 Presidency Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, the IMF and UNFCCC, the Dialogue highlighted the urgent need for:
- Credible pathways for the transition away from oil and gas, on the supply and demand side, reflected in NDCs and implementing policies.
- Enhanced dialogue and coordination between producers and consumers, through forums like BOGA’s Major Producers Dialogue.
- Wider reforms to address structural barriers to the transition away from oil and gas, and mainstream transition through energy and economic policy.
Headline messages from the Dialogue were repeated throughout the week, including in the COP30 Brazil-International Energy Agency (IEA) High-Level Energy Transition Dialogue hosted by the UN, where BOGA members RMI, Ireland, France and Tuvalu participated, alongside the BOGA Secretariat.
