High-level dialogue co-hosted by the European Commission and BOGA at COP30
Wrapping up the first week of COP30, the High-Level Dialogue on Accelerating Global Efforts for a Just, Orderly and Equitable Transition Away from Fossil Fuels, co-hosted by the European Commission and the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance, helped to build momentum for an ambitious outcome in Belém.
Two years after the historic COP28 agreement to transition away from fossil fuels, Ministers and high-level representatives from a diverse group of Parties converged around a clear message: that COP30 must accelerate the implementation of Paragraph 28 of the Global Stocktake and the transition away from fossil fuels.
Opened by European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, and UK Secretary of State for Net Zero and Energy Security, Ed Miliband, the dialogue focused on progress since COP28 and next steps to accelerate the transition, from the dialogues, mechanisms and partnerships that can support implementation, to the potential options for a roadmap.
In her closing remarks, Brazil's Environment Minister, Marina Silva, stressed the value of producers and consumers, developed and developing, coming together to discuss the transition. She urged Parties to provide a clear mandate for a roadmap away from fossil fuels, noting that “sometimes we don’t even need new paths, just a new way of walking”.
