BOGA Fund events at COP30
In week one of COP30, events about the BOGA Fund programmes in Colombia and Nigeria and BOGA’s collaboration with the NDC Partnership placed implementation at the heart of conversations.
From Vision to Partnership: Colombia’s Country Platform
This joint event with BOGA, Colombia, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) showcased progress on Colombia’s just energy transition and preparation of a country platform, as well as the launch of the IEA Net Zero Roadmap Report for Colombia. The BOGA Fund has been supporting work on a just transition from oil and gas with the IDB and IEA in the context of Colombia’s proposed country platform, and at subnational level with a focus on the country’s most oil-dependent region, Meta.
Partnerships for a Just Transition: Accelerating Action on Methane Reduction and Planning for the Transition Away from Oil and Gas
This joint event co-hosted by BOGA, Nigeria’s National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) and the Global Methane Hub (GMH) presented Nigeria’s progress on addressing methane and upstream emissions in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas industry, and its first steps in planning for a just transition from oil and gas. A programme of support under the BOGA Fund, announced in September, will support transition risk analysis and just transition plans and policies, alongside action on methane.
High-Level Panel Event Reflecting the Transition Away from Fossil Fuels in NDCs 3.0
This event co-hosted by BOGA and the NDC Partnership reported back on progress made over the past year, since the COP29 announcement offering support under the BOGA Fund and technical guidance to any government that wanted to reflect the transition away from oil and gas in their NDC. BOGA presented an update, and speakers from Kazakhstan, Fiji and Nigeria shared their progress on planning for a just transition, from reflecting the transition in their NDCs, to developing national plans and roadmaps for a just transition from fossil fuels.
